note to self for future lipdubs:

- calm down a little; embrace subtlety
- do more stuff with the eyes (like Eric's Air video)
- make sure the earbuds are in properly!

anyone else have suggestions? I'm opening this up for scrutiny.

  • -dude, eff calming down! this is the way to do it, baby!

-i think lip-dubbing is 86% about the eyebrows. discuss...
  • Nathan Miller 1 year ago
Exactly! How about Eyebrow Dubbing, just moving the eyebrows and body to a song, no mouth movement???

I love the fact that you lost balance at 0:59 but kept on singing!

I wish people did that on Sao Paulo's subway. =(

I agree with most people here - don't calm down! In fact, the opposite. I think you're right, subtlety does suit some songs, but each song has a different mood, and this one works great with the way you express yourself. I like enthusiasm. For this particular song, I liked the interaction with the others - what would have been great (although been a bit risky and taken a lot of guts) would be if you had then gone on to interact with other people on the subway!

Nice video though, I like it. I think your expressions are great.
  • sepia salax 1 year ago
Totally, interaction! Like if you started strutting down the aisle to the beat, singing the lines to appropriate recipients as you passed them by...

    Rock and roll fantasyland, dude!

In my eyes, you are the epitome of a great lip-dubber. Your expressions always are coherent with the song and you are really good at lip dubbing the words, if you know what I mean. It's great that you always get others to join in as well. Keep up the good work!

It's a song about being crazy, so of course you should act that way(especially in a New York subway car) "(You're) not crazy, (you're) just a little unwell".

Love it. You are DEFINTELY crazy. Such enthusiasm I can really relate to. I love singing to songs all nutty like that. Though the crazy eyes I would probably have to nixae, but it looks like you figured that one out yourself. Do more lip dubbing I say. That was fun. Oh yeah, and definitely keep harassing strangers in your vids. That was funny, too.

I think subtlety is just another approach. Your performance was excellent. The shedding of layers was a neat idea. I thought you might trade coats with one of the boys like Mr. Rogers but it flowed like better like you did it. The first earbud pop was perfect too.

How can I ever join the lip dubbing party - I live for music, but cant really remember more than one line per song. My mind just doesnt seem to work that way - and I have a fairly good memory in general.

Okay! Sweet. How about some Magnetic Fields, Otis Redding, or even Kriss Kross?
  • Jakob Lodwick 1 year ago
ok, I hate to micromanage but please do this:

    1) pick out a specific song. something by the Magnetic Fields would be good.

    2) make a formal clip request on my profile page.

I remember watching this just after you posted it. It's still just as good now, and one of the very best lib dubs as far as being "fun to watch". Actually I think this was the second or third clip I ever watched on Vimeo. I got on this site shortly after I heard the bit on NPR when they did the short interview with you.
Again, thanks Jakob and everybody for making Vimeo so great!
