Between August, 2009 and May, 2010, I worked on an undergraduate senior thesis for the Peace Studies Department at Goucher College.
The result was a 120-page investigation into the opportunities disasters present for community-driven development and reconstruction, and an oral history-based review of two recent American disasters and their response efforts.
On April 28, 2010, I presented my thesis to about 70 members of the Goucher community. Six weeks later, on June 4, 2010, I gave a more informal version of the same presentation to friends and family in Oakland, California.
This recording was made of that presentation.
The paper, "Deconstructing Reconstruction: Finding Opportunity in Disaster," is available upon request.
