CHAN:
The wife of Thailand's former prime minister has been found guilty of tax fraud. She has been sentenced to three years in jail, but is free on bail, for now. Here's the latest.
STORY:
The wife of ousted Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was accompanied by her husband and her three children at court. More than 200 police and security officials were deployed with blockades to manage the crowd.
Mrs. Thaksin, her brother and secretary have been charged with evading more than $16 million to invest in her husband's telecom firms.
The guilty verdict is the first in several lawsuits prepared against Thaksin and his family and associates by anti-graft investigators appointed after a 2006 coup.
Around 1,000 pro-Thaksin supporters gathered outside the courtroom carrying roses and banners, although they were prevented from getting too close to the entrance by banks of 300 riot police. There was no violence.
