Out of the box

These are the very first shots taken by my Canon XH-A1.
So, the first requirement when acquiring a new camera is a test card, some people use their pets, others like myself prefer to use nature's own camera testing facility, the woodland. There is so much detail to be captured in the woods, all angles, straights, curves and colour tones to show off the camera's capabilities.
Twas a grey grey day
In early May
All the sun
Was hidden away
So I have used quite a bit of colour correction in Sony Vegas Pro 8 in order to liven things up a little. I also reduced the speed to 25% for the blue-tit as it was difficult at normal speed to determine what was going on here.
Camera settings were fully auto. No tripod unfortunately.
The locations are approximately a 5 mins car journey from junction 15 of the M6 in the UK.
Hanchurch woods: The woods were presented to the people by a previous Lord Stafford for our 'perpetual' enjoyment. They are maintained by our local council.
A little of the recent history of the cave: This was used by the military during WW2 for the storage of ammunition, hence the extensive brickwork, and though not so visible a tiled floor.
Of course now it is used as a rave venue, though I can see why this cave was chosen for such an activity, I have to seriously question the safety aspects here.
But then, youth is, has and always will be 'youth' to whom health and safety violation means excitement, of course as youth fades one finds the scene a good video/photo opportunity.
I am still experimenting with SVP8 hence the fancy logo work, apologies, I intended to remove this, but ran into my new weekly storage quota. With a new project coming up this week, I don't yet know how much of my quota needs reservation.

I would love to see you narrate this and tell a story. Now you are a writer so you could easily imagine something up and then speak in your mic. You do have a micc right?
I think the color correction is OK. Woods are hard to shoot especially with caves and fallen leaves. I always dreamed of photographing some of the Vermont woods in the Summer but they are so lush and dark I stuck to the snowy ones in the winter. BAck to this, things look a little too red and blue - so a tad saturation going on but I have to say as I stated before, I'm impressed with the Vegas (the colors in the monkey video really shows it off) and if I decided to ever go PC (which would never happen in a million years) I guess life would not be so bad if it would. :-) That cave was awesome.
Yes, I do have a mic right, I also have one for the left, right, but, neither will hear me narrating a video, well, not yet anyway.
Yes, the colours were really drab, except for the gorse and lonely daffodil, which have suffered slightly from the general colour correction.
I think that late September to mid October is a nice time to get footage in the woods, very early in the morning, when there is a fine mist around. Then again in the height of summer when slender fingers of sunlight penetrate the canopy. Just look at me waxing lyrical all of a sudden.
I was born not too far from the cave, so we are old friends so to speak. I love caves.
In my youth I used to go potholing, nothing serious, just down the recognised and well trodden ones, it's a whole different world beneath ground level.
You may have noticed in my last comment to Sir Fourmoors about my Vimeo activity being limited for the next two weeks, but just in case you haven't I mention it here.
I am finalising some project work. I will be around to pass comment etc. but personal video work for Vimeo will be disrupted for this period, this is the reason that the Monkeyin round video was compiled so quickly.
The next version of the Monkey will hopefully be more polished.
Thanks for the comments and time Maria. Keep reading Keen Johns (you know it makes sense).
