Heidi Lewis Coleman: Mixed Media

Heidi Lewis Coleman creates mixed media pieces using acrylic paint and cut or shredded paper/silk on canvas. Her work incorporates an abstract writing which is an invented, rhythmic language that flows automatically from her hand. Sometimes the writing is created horizontally, but most often it is vertical - drawing references to Asian calligraphy. Coleman feels that because her artwork communicates in the abstract and is not literal, individual viewers are not forced to translate it specifically, allowing them to "feel" it and take away their own unique messages on a subconscious level.
