'HD' in HV30. I flirted with the focus, stability, and slow motion to see if we'd get along. I love the HV30!

Nice vid, and nice choice of music. I love me some Trentemoller. :-)

    That bee shot was crazy!

Is that with a 35mm adapter or something? Looks great
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
I wish. It was just the HV30 and Sony Vegas. Thanks for the comment!

  • Damn fine work Matthew!

    Absolutely beautiful. Well done!

Wow, amazing, is it true you didn't use any kind of adapter or lens?
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey thank you!! Yeah, there is no lens or anything on it. I just messed with the focus length and brightness/contrast as heavily as possible to get more of a film effect.
  • RDJim plus 1 year ago
How do you shoot let alone focus without a lens? or do you mean you used a stock lens?

Nice work Matthew. Great to see you pushing the HV30 to the limit! That first bee shot was fantastic!

I applaud your creativity. How did you get that jib shot of the plants so smooth? I am assuming you weren't using a jib? Thank you for inspiring me.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Haha, no. I was using the tripod for that shot. You caught me, haha. I did a couple run throughs with it going up and down, and finally recorded one of them.

    Fine Fine work, buddy!
do u have magic hands or something? cause youre pretty stable with the camera there! on 2:10 it seemed to me, that u were motion tracking that bug using AE or something..hehe..but i guess im wrong :]
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Haha, no AE or any of that stuff. I thought when I got the camera that it would be really hard to stabilize because of how small it is, but just as long as I keep it off 24p I can do really smooth shots with it. In post I can just render it as 24p, so it'll still get the "film rate" down. Thanks for the comment man!

That bee shot is ridiculous. After seeing that you're going to end up getting me stung trying to get something similar. I really need to get my hv30 out more.

is the 'slow-mo' done in post?
  •
  • Anthony plus 1 year ago
what was your workflow? How was it shot?
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey man! Yeah the video's slow motion was done in post. I shot it at 1/2000 in TV mode with manual white balance of course. I guess I'm not sure what you mean by workflow, haha.

  • JB Jacobs plus 1 year ago
wow, some really cool shots in there. Just got the HV30 as well and love it!

Hey Man! Great work, truly inspiring! Specially the nature shots, WOW. Ive been considering on buying a sony sdr11/12 but after all these amazing hv20/30 shots im changing my mind! Thanx!!
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey thanks man! Yeah, the camera is pretty amazing. Even the small size can work to your advantage by getting into the smallest places to shoot.

Film isn't my expertise but I think this video is stunning. Your work is simple. It brings out what's beautiful and inspiring in a lot of ordinary things. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Great footage. I particularly loved the tracking backwards through the 1:30. I know you saw that and said, "NIIIIIIIICE." I just got the Letus35mini for my HV30 and I'm posting soon. The macro work is unbelievable.

Quick question: What track is that? Good pick.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey thank you! I can't wait to see what you post! Is the Letus worth it? I might go grab one myself. The track on the video is "Take Me Into Your Skin" by Trentemoller. I did edit the song down, so the melody is actually a little bit different in the full song.
  • Adam Purcell 1 year ago
I think so. In fact I'm going to also buy a rail system at some point. But I'm just loving the gorilla film-making feeling I get when I hold the thing. As a peice of equipment, the letus is pretty solid and I like what I'm getting with it a lot. Overall, I'm impressed. Given your talent I'd like to see what you'd do with one. I'll post soon, I'm just messing around with color correction and then I'll get it up.

Whoa. beautiful video I'll have to say.

this is the kind of videos that I just love to watch, the're exciting, beautiful and they don't even need a real story to be told to keep me watching. thank you, I really like it.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Thank you! I'll hopefully have a story to go along with the imagery very soon. thanks for taking the time to check it out!

I've just bought the hv30, and the quality is great on the cam's lcd-screen, but when I transfer the video to my computer it gets messed up... (I'm also using just the cam and Sony Vegas)

How do you manage to keep the quality after transfering it to the computer?
  •
  • I looove that song.. I've been thinking the last 2 months on what I could shoot to do it justice.. and Matthew, great video!

looks great, nice subtle focussing, sometimes it`s a little bit like a dof-fake, interesting to see that you know all about this cam .)
  • Matthew Brown plus 11 months ago
DOF Fake? haha. What do you mean? Thanks for the nice comment! I still have a lot to learn about the camera, though. I hope your holidays are going well!
  • Matthew Brown plus 8 months ago
Oh, now I think I know what you mean. Do you think I created some depth of field stuff on post by blurring out part of the images? It's actually all in camera. Zooming in and messing with the manual focus will achieve actual shallow depth of field.
  • olaf h. ☞ nadu 7 months ago
yes, i first thought of the virtual lenses in magic bullet.
    ...so respect, well done...!

this is a great video post, it looks like the comercials of a plasma tv in sony stores, maybe you should send it to a sony o0r canon or any of that stores. This video is one of the reasons that sugested me to buy a HV30, great job pal!!
