Maybe for your next experiment you could try some of the 'effects' in Vegas to see if you can bring the cloud & sky to 'life' ;-)

I like the natural look of this though - nice one Steve :)

Hi, I Loved your test… if this was a tast, I cant wait to see your final work… I also have a sony hdr-sr7 and Sony Vegas 7… but I cant figure out how you do timelaps with these two… could you please give me some hints… I know how to make time laps with still photos, but how do you do it with the SONY hdr-sr7?? Thanks in advance…

Hi Durban - thanks for the comment! Only Vegas is needed /used to speed up the video. The sr7 doesn't have that capability. For this video (and the other two t/l's I made). I use a combination of speeding up the clip in the timeline by grabbing the right edge of the clip while holding down CTRL. You'll see a squiggly line under the cursor, compress the clip and you can get a 400% increase in speed. Then I use the velocity envelope; right click on the clip, choose insert/remove envelope - velocity. Your clip will have a blue line through it and you can get another 300%. Note that it loops the clip so adjust accordingly. I then rendered that to a new track and repeated just the 400% increase on the new track before the final render.

I'm a hack by all means - most of what I learned I picked up through the Creative Cow and DMN Vegas forum.

Good luck - I look forward to seeing your results!

OK, so its speed up 400% + 300% and then render + another 400%… I’m going to try that out… Thanks for the help...

if you don't mind me asking, how big was the native .m2ts file for this video?
  • Steve Douglas 1 year ago
Unfortunatley I didn't keep this around - but it was likely in the 3-4GB range.

    Hi Steve Douglas,

This is me trying out what I like to call the “Speed Douglas technique” and this was the result.

Once again thanks for the tips, and if you get a chance you must explain to me, what to do to stop the clip from looping when we speed up the clip after the first render to a new track. What I did was split and cut after the first loop. Is that what you meant when you said “Adjust accordingly”
  • Steve Douglas 1 year ago
Nice work on the time lapse Durban!

You certainly can split and cut at the loop point, I usually just grab the end of the clip and trim it back to the snap point but make sure you do that before render. I found out the hard way and rendered the 3x clip before I realized it was looped. That is what I meant with "adjust accordingly".

I have not looked into how to stop it from looping altogether when using the velocity envelope.

I'll look forward to seeing more of your time lapse clips.
