far cooler than a computer generated visualization.

i'm pretty sure you've seen the crazy geometrical patterns when raising the frequency of a sound, this reminds me of that! i wonder what kind of shapes different music produces......
  • Arnold Marko plus 3 years ago
i can tell only - very different... and it also depends on the material and the shape of the "arena"... but my colleague primoz could tell even more on that subject...

you wouldnt' believe how little light you need on such small area, to achieve good shadows (one oridinary tungsten;)

so sick! what did you use to achieve this?
  •
  • a little bit closer with the camera view ..the bag is not important ..i thnik ...the last part is nice :) good work
  • Arnold Marko plus 3 years ago
well... in a way this was just a test recording, so we where experimenting with different angles and distances. Incredible how diffrent it looks from above or inside (it's the same take made with two cameras)...

What kind of components you used?
  • Arnold Marko plus 3 years ago
I don't understand the question. You mean video equipment? A Canon XH-G1, a JVC HD-251E, an oridinary tungsten light (a desk lamp to be more specific ;) and a loudspeaker. Is that what you asked?
  • Sergio 3 years ago
no.. i'm talking about the "sand". What is it?

Nice patterns, very interesting it looks like it was backlit. One suggestion, please turn down the KABOOM Volume at the end. It is just too darn loud :)
  • Arnold Marko plus 3 years ago
yes, people always tell me that ;) but I just can't help myself...

Very cool man! I would really like to play this along with a song: Paramore's "Let The Flames Begin" for my college ministry.

can you tell me the name of the song? sounds like Dead Can Dance, but i'm not sure. Thanks and nice job

it's Kimmo Pohjonnen, a finish guy who plays an accordionand is producing the sound live on stage... a greta musician, if you ask me ;)

    you'll love this video, Arnold:

AMOEBA was built to evaluate the effects of waves on ship designs. A student found another use for this equipment : creating the alphabet on the water’s surface !

alluring cymatics videos you have around here, congratulations! it was great finding them by chance since I´ve been already for some time wanting to undertake some experiments with cymatics myself.

just one month ago I got finally the book and films by Hans Jenny and I´m getting more and more fascinated with this phenomena. I just hope to find time soon to start some experiments...

______ thanks for this inspiring ones, great work!!

That's so funny, I also new about cymatics, but didn't know about Hans Jenny until I read this article

which book have you been reading?

Kymatic this is awesome. I've added your video to a channel i created dedicated to fluid dynamics. Yours has a very unique quality though that i wanted to add. I love these optical effects from the computer generated ones. the impact, detail and sheer scare is so much greater and evoking.
