"Nietzsche took lodgings in the Durisch house where he worked for months on end in his simple room, with rare concentration and creative power. From here he went on walks for hours, every day, on which, completely rapt in thought, he jotted down entries in little notebooks specially provided by his sister. In this way, a whole series of most important works were drafted and in part also completely written - works which have been of greatest significance for European intellectual life."

"Thus Nietzsche enjoyed the stay in his Sils-Maria under the "sappy, broad-shadowed, quiet trees" (Menschlich, Allzumenschliches), in full draughts of a grateful heart, prepared for him as if by a kindly fate, when he returned tired and freezing "from the vicinity of the tall mountains where the mightiest rivers have their source." (Menschlich, Allzumenschliches)
