Since the iPhone 4 came out I have been working on a way to stabilize the phone on a tripod. Instead of fabricating a mount and gluing on a case, I recycled an old damaged Canon SLR Body and molded the a Apply iPhone 4G inside of it.
With the weight of the Canon Body(stability during recording), mountings(tripods,LED lights, microphone), and the combination of a DOF adapter and SLR lens(depth-to-field effect, zoom lens), I now have a iCanon4.

This SLR Camera can "Facetime", take a call while recording, or record your kids event from the back of the room and post it on Vimeo, or Youtube right away....Thanks for watching!

Was the Camera still working before you re-purposed the body like this?

It should be awesome if the canon lens can be adapted to iPhone

So what's the point of this?

You've combined the barely reasonable image quality of the iPhone and the bulkiness / inconvenience of an SLR. Also, at the start of the video I was under the impression that you'd have been able to use the shutter button along with the lens on the SLR body to take your photos instead of just touching the screen and removing the lens.

My guess is that it's going to act as a kind of DoF adapter for the iPhone:

This is stupid, a waste of time & a waste of money & resources.
  • Blake Whitman staff 1 year ago
Hey Yousif, maybe it might be more productive to ask him what his intentions were before calling the project stupid.
  • Yousif Jawhar 1 year ago
Hmm.. no! He gutted an amazing camera, inserted an iphone into the camera body where you can't use any external lens, the camera's shutter button or any other button on the camera's body, for that matter!! :)

Regardless of what he did, Vimeo is a place of respect, please remember that.

Thx Blake, let's try to recycle those unwanted DAMAGED SLR, and keep them from filling the landfill, atleast.
  • Yousif Jawhar 1 year ago
@Blake, I didn't disrespect, I called it stupid, a waste of time, money and resources, so stop picking on me! :)

    @Ani Didn't know it wasn't working! ;)

Where I come from calling someone's idea "stupid, a waste of time, money and resources" is disrespectful.

Despite it already being broken, The iPhone 4 has MANY useful non-photo features that the Cannon does not.
    -Apps to edit images
    -wifi/data to upload pics
    -GPS to tag location
    -gyroscopes for plotting panoramas
    -HD Video and editing

Some people may desire these more than a broken cannon slr -- even a working one.

This is innovative and fun. I love the idea.

Now… where can we see some photos taken with this beast?

So, can you use the canon lens with this or not?

  • john abraham 1 year ago
Although it is useless, it is kind of a cool idea, and I like that the guy tried it.

  • totaly useless

I do believe you put your iPhone in a Canon body, because if you put your lens in a cannon, we definitely have a problem.

    Can I just ask why?

Why replace a really decent 25 megapixel ccd with a rubbish 2 megapixel iPhone one?

This type of mad tinkering is what makes humans cool and interesting, innovative and yes..useful.

  • Hello! It was a NOT working old SLR Cam. The Cam was already broken and damaged and not working. So its not waste of money. Maybe only waste of time.

I would like to know which old Canon Body he used. Can you tell us please?
  • Aniebres 1 year ago
You can use any camera body, as long it fits the iPhone.

  • Stefan Forslund 1 year ago
I think it's a cool idea since the SLR was broken and therefore unusable. It's a great way to get the extra weight to the iPhone which is needed if you want to get stable photo and video with it + you get the possibility to mount it on tripods etc. (Yes, I know that there's cheaper ways to build a tripod mount for the iPhone). However, does it work with attached lenses? That's the big question. I don't think I'd go for this solution if that ain't possible. Really cool idea though!
  • Aniebres 1 year ago
Yes, you can add SLR lens, but. Must use a DOF adapter to really make work and also use the App. "almostSLR" to flip the image.....thx, will have pix and vid after I receive a
    Better lens.

Have you seen the system used with OWLE Bubo to attach SLR lenses? You could use this combination of adapters to fit an slr lens to your mod! Here's a link:

Well done, I think it's great that you've done this, great fun!

Giving the iPhone4 photos/videos more DOF is a plus.

Hacking up a Cannon body... is a plus too :P

    Nice work!!!
Nothing like a bit of out-of-the-box creativity to stir up the online haters into a bit of pointless negativity, fueled by a deep seated loathing of themselves and their own fruitless lives spent at home in front of the tv buying gadgets off ebay and pretending to be an authority on something. Congrats!!

WTF!!!! people dissing the guy for doing something he wanted to do - I would say all of you negative people should spend less time criticising and more time doing something creative.
Well done Aniebres - keep doing what you do and ignore these bottom-feeders.

This is by far the best idea for an iphone I have ever seen.

You, my friend, have invented the first true smartcamera.
