I'm curious about what kind of project would commit this kind of resources to this awesome sequence?
  • Ty Roderick 1 year ago
It's a part of a yearly project called "Skate and Create," four different skateboarding companies get nine days in a warehouse to shoot a 3-5 minute video. The final videos are judged and the winning team gets a cover of the Transworld Skateboarding magazine and a reserved spot in next years competition.

Nice but a little too controlled for me. I enjoyed the setup more than the vid.

"Anarchy" is a good concept for skateboarders and fire backs up that idea. But except a few well shot scenes, video repeats itself quite often. Skateboarders uses the same setup for a couple of times and that bored me a little. Overall it's a good work though.

    Just kiddin

I love all the comments where people are saying "bored" "controlled" etc. I saw a guy grinding a burning hump rail.

The sickest parts for me were Rickk's frontie on the 1/4 pipe, the "transfer" and MJ's "through the wheel." Balls.

Why is "Romania" in the title?
  • It's a pun. Pyromania (enjoyment caused by lighting fires)
-> Lakai -> Py rhymes with Kai -> Lakairomania.

I thought it was Lakai or die immitation?

Skateboarding is soo rebellious, what with its million dollar short films produced by people who probably dont even skateboard. X-TREME SPORT!! yeah right. fake flames and small ramps. Not exactly anarchy. Just a ton of money from a shoe company, sold in rebellious places like walmart and foot locker.
  • shane schommer 1 year ago
couldnt have said it better myself haha.
  • BC Olejniczak 1 year ago
It's not about the Skateboarding. It's about the cinematography and making visually interesting stuff. Besides, people who think that they're actually rebels because they skateboard are f-ing retarded.
  • jeff fribourg 1 year ago
your clueless and angry because your a rollerblader... look at the cinematography and the direction of the short and stop trying to compensate for wearing rollerblades.
  • Callum Stone 1 year ago
You're an idiot Julian. It's not the fact that the ramps are small, and it's obviously produced by someone that has a clear grasp and concept of the sport. Not at any point is it made out to be a film depicting the sport as anarchistic. It depicts anarchy, but not skateboarding as an anarchistic sport.

It's a film made by people who love the sport, but who also love visually rich films. There's the term "Go big or go home", but we're now in a day and age where going big doesn't mean going higher, faster or further. Going big now means capturing people, and this film really has done that.

Next time, unless you have something constructive to say, you may as well keep it to yourself.
  • Julian 1 year ago
I am not clueless and angry because I am a rollerblader. I am irritated because this is does not demonstrate much skill in the actual sport. This is not a "visually rich" film, its a pretty boring display of pyrotechnics and special effects.
  • Julian 1 year ago
Also I am not "compensating" by wearing rollerblades, I started to rollerblade because to me it is more fun. The perspective I have gained after starting to rollerblade allows me to see the truth. And negative comments can be constructive, just not in a difficult way. Why would I keep my opinions to myself?
  • Julian 1 year ago
Also I am not belittling the cinematography or the pyrotechnics, just how I interpreted it.
  • jeff fribourg 1 year ago
Julian - i truly feel sorry for you that you cant just appreciate things for what they are. its a very rich film and im sorry you cant grasp that.
  • Julian 1 year ago
but its not! i know what rich films are, and this is not one!
  • Ralph Lindsen 1 year ago
uhm, exec produced by SPIKE JONZE, the career of this awesome director (loads of music video's, being john malkovic, where the wild things are etc) started with skateboard vids. The people who made this love skateboarding.

The rest of your post, you can say the same about every extreme sport, including the one you do. I don't know why you do, but i don't mind that they invest money in video's like this. You and me both know the standard video, it's the same with skateboardings as with inline skating: Tricks, handrails, gaps and stairs filmed through a fisheye lens. They try to go beyond that, what's not to like?
