Yet another gratuitous video of my kids and fish. I sense a theme. Once again, Jakob, there are no flounder. Bummer, I know. I like the shot because of the interview as we were trucking through the market.

I also want to test to see how Vimeo handles 16x9 flash content. It is the geek in me.

"they don't fly like a bird" ... "well, yeah, but..."

I liked that exchange, so natural.

    Which camera did you use?

These kids have had a camera jammed in their faces for so many years they just ignore it. They are really comfortable in front of the lens.

I have been shooting with a Sony HVR-A1U. I shoot in HDV (cinema mode which is a faux progressive format), edit for the web in DV on Avid and crop and compress using Flash. The camera's latitude is pretty lame sometimes (it hates high contrast, and really sucks in low light) but for run and gun stuff the camera is OK. Just don't shoot anything with high motion, the HDV format can't handle the interframe motion. OK that is more than you wanted to know, I am guessing.

that seems like a cool place! so you converted it to flash, then uploaded it? i'm confused. It is kinda nice how you don't have the black bars, but I personally think they add to a cinematic effect... i mean if thats what you're going for.. but anyways, good stuff

I beg to differ. I prefer 16:9 without black bars. But we'll not fall out over this?

Thanks for the comments. As to letterbox or no letterbox, either is fine, really. I look at a 16x9 monitor most of the day so I have gotten used to the format.

As to process... I edit in 4x3 standard definition for my personal stuff, so my video has the black bars (letterbox). Once I am done with my edit, rather than export a QT file for upload I convert it to flash ahead of time. The files are so much smaller and I can control how it looks. I did one about a bad haircut I got this weekend and didn't crop out the bars. I am not all that passionate about it either way. I am easy. Damn this comment is long. Sorry.

You've really made me miss Seattle.

36 degrees with sleet and bad traffic... You are not missing much today. Now a warm September evening on Alki beach, that is something to miss.
