I was terrified when I heard this story the week after it happened from a man here in Asheville who went. Watching it is completely different though. Unbelievable. Illegal.
The rangers showed up because they had reason to believe that a man in the group had pot and they wanted to arrest him. The group gathered in the family "village" to pray before dinner when the rangers tackled the man to the ground. The children started screaming in fear and the rangers started pepper spraying and shooting with rubber bullets. The parents tried to get in between the cops and the kids while holding their hands up and repeating "peace".
This is the first hand account I received from someone here in asheville and all of the videos I've seen seem to show the same story.
well for a first hand account its not very accurate, they weren't shooting rubber bullets ( not in the video at least )... Also, cops hate using pepper spray and love using tasers, and I didn't see anyone get hit a taser...
Actually they were using rubber bullets as well as pepper spray (or so said the reports and articles I read). There was tons of violence on both sides, but I'm going to have to say what the officers did and their reasons why were rather weak.
They came after one man, not several, not a hundred, just ONE man who was accused and later found proven to have marijuana on him. He, as well as another man who was charged with physical interference, were arrested.
And from what I've read...I can't say I side with the officers. While the Rainbows showed hostility...what would you do if you and your family and friends were being attacked for a reason unbeknown to you?
After watching this video I did some of my research about the topic and theeeen found myself writing a nice 'angry' rant (or at least a few of my friends called it that).
btw yelling and screaming doesn't calm down already nervous cops/
