A three week trip in the Hayes Range, the Central Alaska Range's mean little brother, yields two new routes and one summit: The Direct West Face of Mount Hayes (V AI3 R 6,500 ft), and the Northeast Buttress of Mount Balchen (V AI4 M6 3,500 ft (stopped 50-100 feet short of the summit due to lightning). Climbers were Ryan Hokanson and Samuel Johnson, air support by Rob Wing. This expedition was primarily supported by Black Diamond Equipment, The Copp-Dash Inspire Award, and the American Alpine Club. Supplementary support was received from PROBAR and GU Energy Labs.
