Dear Jason,

Happy Birthday!

Love,
Karen and Bryan

(Collaboratively executed, Bryan's phone bits and flight were conceived and crafted in Minnesota while the rest was sliced and diced in California.)

Wow dude, how long did this take?? I'd like to make an animation like this someday but I'm afraid of all the work.

Sweet birthday message! I hope it was a happy one!
  • I can't really speak on behalf of Bryan but know this in regards to my bits:

The phone cord attached to the base took 3 hours to cut out. The longer phone cord in the wide shots that is smaller took 4 and a half hours to cut out. Most of my parts are itty bitty so they take a lot of time.

Cutting out usually takes way longer than the actual physical photo taking (in my case) and editing...depending on how complicated the movement it.

It doesn't have to take that much time. The time hinges on how complicated the movements are and how detailed the cut outs are. Making them basic and fun shouldn't take more than a few hours.

This was the first one Bryan and I made together in college and cutting everything out and taking all the photographs took...maybe..hmmm 4 hours.

Good to know! I think I can handle putting in a few hours. Maybe I will make an animation for my next video! You guys inspired me.

This is so cute and awesome! I wonder what Karen told Bryan on the phone. I wish I could understand DinoDialects too :)
  • I said "cool, i can go but how am I supposed to get there?" "So what i'm supposed to hop into the phone" ?

    haha

AWESOME! Hey, my birthday's March 3rd. Keep that in mind...I want one of these. =P

j/k of course. How long did that take you?
  • March 3rd..I will have retired construction paper animation by then. Get birthed quicker.

    ahaha
    jk

Hmmm....It's hard to guage how much time it takes to do these because of how involved you get with the actual parts. (short phone cord took almost 3 hours to cut longer one took over 4 hours) Animating takes maybe an hour or two and so does editing, but cutting out takes forever...if you want details. (these aren't even that detailed)
  • Paul Davis plus 1 year ago
HAHAHA...I'm so impatient, but I plan to do one of these soon. I just need to get motivated and get away from my books and sports.
