Nice Wolfgang - can you recall the settings for the camera and what effects were used in FCP?
  • Wolfgang Gaebler plus 1 year ago
I've used SLS between 2 and 8 and manual focus...

I've used no Effects in FCP - only transitions and speed settings!

Nice Images! Would you be willing to share your compression settings when you exported out of FCP? Also, what did you do for de-interlacing settings?

I'm a rook at this and trying to figure it out the best I can!

    Thanks!

    Hi Jason,

first you have to push the "Like" button... then I will give you an answer... ;-))) - Just joking...

    1. Export from FCP: File -> Export -> Quicktime Movie

    - Settings: Current Settings
    - Recompress All Frames
    - Make Movie Self-Contained

    2. Start MPEG Streamclip - squared5.com/ - it's free!

    - Export to Quicktime
    - Compression: H.264
    - Quality 100%
    - Limit Data Rate: 5000 kbps
    - Sound MPEG-4 AAC - Stereo - Auto - 128kbs
    - Frame Size: 1280x720
    - Frame Rate: "empty"
    - Mark: Deinterlace video

Sometimes I'll make some adjustments - e.g. Saturation

That's all! And don't forget to push the "like" button... ;-)))

I think your method of compression is a bit complicated.
What I do is I export my videos from FCP to the EX1 720p settings.
Then I get this big file (uncompressed) and after that I load it in in Quicktime Pro and export it from there.
With Quicktime pro you have a very powerful compressor directly to Quicktime or any other codec. I love it!

    Thanx for your tip!

I've used QTP in the past, but had some strange results while exporting/compressing some text effects. So I came to this solution.

But I will try the EX1 720p Export and use MPEG Streamclip after that.

EXCELLENT ! What were your settings on the EX1 to capture the storm? One of the best I seen :-)

Try using Twixtor for the slowdowns. Some are a bit jittery...

Brilliant. Love the way the brooding, grooving music is at complete contrast with the sky's violence. I have NEVER seen such great footage of lighting strikes. Nice work dude.

Amazing. I´ve pushed the "like" button twice.
Thanks for the compression answer before (to Jason).
I´ll try too. I need HD tools to make better videos. My old G5 is slow (need updates) and the canon XM2 not enough definition. Next month i´ll get a Canon XhA1, see what's happens.
    Good videos.
