For the last 4 years Whistler Blackcomb has hosted the Deep Winter Photo Challenge. The idea: 5-6 photographers (with an athlete or group of athletes) go out and shoot on the same 3 days, then edit a slideshow for an audience of 1200 people. I have been part of the event for the past 3 years, and have found it to be a format that forces me to be creative and make images that I wouldn't normally make. In fact, some of the days we have to shoot on I would normally just be skiing, leaving the camera at home. Here is the 2009 show which I shot with Dave Short and Chad Sayers. We also focused on the Blackcomb Ski Patrol, as avalanche/snow safety was a big concern at that particular point in the season. We were very pleased to have been voted first place amongst a talented crew of photographers and athletes.
