Derek Chan is an interaction designer who focuses on tying together elements of play with his work.

Derek joined in the MFA in Interaction Design program as a user experience designer who has collaborated with clients including the BBC, Madison Square Garden, GOOD, and Showtime. He enjoys delving into ethnographic research and focuses much of his attention on how to use elements of play borrowed from game design in his work. Through his studies, he has developed a particular interest in designing mobile applications, recognizing the significant role they can play in enhancing our everyday experiences.

Outside of school and work, Derek is also an active member in the interaction design community, serving as a local leader for New York City chapter of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA). A native of Vancouver, Canada, he completed his undergraduate education with a degree in Communication at Simon Fraser University.
