Managed to get Yafray to render points of light (aka Halos) - this used a VTK script to place a tiny sphere at each point in the data. Took an age to render 'cos either VTK, Blender, Python, VTKBlender or my hacked version of Yafray has a memory leak. I ended up resurrecting an old renderfarm script I wrote in Python - this kills the environment after every frame so the leaks don't disappear - but are mitigated...
More data would be nice...
