And yeah, I know... I unfortunately didn't have a tripod in any of the places I was shooting, since they were all places away from home (like, airplane or long train ride distances) in situations where it wasn't really feasible to bring mine along. I'm going to make a greater effort to pack it on trips in the future, and Version B (or C or whatever I end up doing with all of this) will probably have a bunch re-shot using a tripod.

What editing software and codec did you use?

Imported from the camera with Apple's DVHSCap (FireWire importing utility), 3:2 pulldown with mencoder (command line, in Terminal), converted to AIC, edited in Premiere, exported in MPEG4 video and uncompressed audio, size trimmed down a bit before uploading by converting video to XviD and audio to MP3 with FFMpegX. (Though I assume I could get plugins or templates that would let me export in these formats directly from Premiere, but I haven't really looked into it yet.)
