A music video I made for Dublin band Sickboy. They needed a video in a rush for the release of their single and EP so I only had 1 day to shoot something and a couple of days with an editor to cut it. It was shot with little micro cameras/spy cams with composite video out to dv cameras. The little cameras were mounted onto the guitar heads and drumsticks etc so that I could get close up without making them feel self conscious. We also shot some cut aways with a dvx100. The song is about a death "taken away in a car", so I thought a car crushing yard could reflect some of the songs content, where cars go to die etc..
It was a nice little project for me, to shoot straight up lo-fi, gritty live action and turn it around in a couple of days without any effects or animation etc. Different for me anyway.

hey thanks man! It's the first performance thing I've ever shot so it nice to do something so fast and simple. I used 3 swann d-i-y security camera and ran the composite leads into 3 pd150s , basically using the pd150s as dv decks to record the feed. All the digital drop out and the weirdness of colours happened in camera - when they are pointed directly at the sun they made the sun go black, which was kinda cool..
I just uploaded a second, very different video for the same band if u wana check it out, it's called "silence in conversation"

  • Very cool...I always wondered how "they" did the effect where it looks like the camera is connected to the instrument/microphone/whatever

Wow, looks really good. And made in such a short time-span! I love how you see the snares from the guitar vibrate.
I also used such a spy cam for some school's work, it's great to experiment with.
Your other work also looks very nice
    Keep it up!
