Went out to try to get some Perseids shots and test ISO 3200 and my panning head at night.

The 1st clip was with my panning Milapse head and my XTI at 25 sec, 3 sec interval, ISO 1600, F3.5 @ 18mm.

The 2nd clip was with my 40D at 25 sec, 3 sec, ISO 3200, F2.8, @ 17mm.

The 40D shots were ran through Noiseware to reduce high ISO noise.

Both were shot at the same time using one Intervalometer. It was 85 degrees at 3am !

love this- I live in LA, though originally from England- love the great outdoors and astronomical events CA offers- was excited to possibly see the Perseid shower last night for the first time- but it wasn't the city lights that prevented me from seeing them- a fog rolled in so- so thanks for capturing- do you think the same effect could be possible with your HV20 and your gentled intervalometer? (with the cell phone trick to avoid grain/noise?)
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 1 year ago
Thanks Justin. I couldnt get any stars with my HDR-HC3 HDV cam (my cam I had with me) but the HV20 might get some because in photo mode I think it goes to 1/8 exposures. You would need max gain probably though.

Excellent! Looks like you could slow the pan down just a hair or run it through timewarp in AE. I'm amazed how good it looks at 3200! Rock on.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Milapse.

It was good except the one skip from not noticing one of my batts died.

I did the pan at 2x on the Milapse head just by hitting the speed button after turning it on. I'm not sure what the AZ ratio defaults to.
