Until recently, I didn't realize how important it was to get not only the right balance but also the right "drop time". I've searched youtube and found 1 video done by the inventor or the steadicam that it should be about a full second for the Merlin steadicam. I've searched the net for the right drop time and found some info and depending on the steadicam it should be around 1.5 to 3 seconds.

So the smaller Merlin type steadicam, I think, should be around 1 to 1.5 seconds. That's how I weighted my steadicam to drop to and that pretty much got rid of the pendulum swing and a lot of the boat rocking.
