EBow (electronic bow) for guitar
Here's a little video of me playing the EBow. It's the little device I'm holding in my right hand. It's essentially a very clever electromagnetic generator that interacts with the magnetic pickups on an electric guitar. The resulting magnetic field vibrates the string, and will sustain the note as long as it is in proximity of the pick-up, theoretically forever (or until the battery runs out!).
The EBow (short for "Electronic Bow") actually came out in the 70's. It is tricky to play well, something one gets a feel for... but it isn't nearly as hard as it looks! :^)
