'Soothing Glimpses of Tokyo'
Video shot during April 2008 in Tokyo.
(and surrounding areas)
Camera: Canon HV20 using it's Cine Mode.
Editing Software: Edius Broadcast
I love Japan, this was my 5th time there.
I was there for a month and enjoyed it immensely as always.
I stayed with my awesome Japanese friends!
Tokyo is amazing and I find new places to explore every time I'm there.
There are lovely places to relax and other places that excite the senses!
It's a wonderful mix of it's ancient past & the future the rest of world will see in it's own time.
Enjoy :)

Congratulations on your work.
Cine Mode is very flat but that's where it shines as you have so much room to play with when you edit it later on.
I have the Manfretto 785B, it's 43.5cm closed & 150.5cm fully opened and yes it was very steady for such a small light weight tripod.
Had it in my small backpack as you really don't have the room on Tokyo's train to carry large items.
Rush hour in Tokyo's trains is just crazy & it last longer than an hour...
(I guess you know what it means in japanese..."great!")
どうもありがとうございます!
日本で超すごいですね。。。

"Moments of Silence" sounds like a great channel...
:)
Would have liked to see some full motion in there.
Otherwise the colors and photos were really nice.
I really do understand where you're coming from & am happy you brought it up as we all learn how other people view things, it has made me think a little different for my next video.
So thanks again :)
You did a great job of finding and shooting the natural beauty that hides in Tokyo's corners. Many people pass by it everyday without slowing down to have a look.
I do agree with Scottinva a bit. I think it's a bit slow compared to the typical web video you see. It kinda needs a bit of an atmosphere of its own, and falling into all the other videos online, the contrast kinda makes you want to push it a little.
Maybe it's an attention span issue?
I'd like to see some kind of a theme or running plot driving the shots...sometimes they felt a little disconnected.
But as for color/image quality, you're really getting the best out of the HV20 - well done!
Look forward to seeing the next one~
I do see your point of it being disconnected at times but I shot anything I thought looked nice when I was there with no plan of a story...that's why I used the word 'glimpses' in the title as it is a quick & incomplete look of soothing shots of Tokyo.
I do tend to agree with you about the 'attention span issue' as I find myself skipping through other peoples videos at times.
Thanks again for your feedback :)

Yeah Cine Mode can be a challenge, bit of a love hate thing at times until you find settings that work for you.
I will email you more info about my settings etc . . .
That's right; no filters or lens adapters. Stock Standard.
Cine Mode in Camera, the rest was filters in Edius.

Also learnt a new word: Hedonism :)
See my above link concerning colour correction etc...
Another thing with the colour is that some shots were taped during sunset, a lovely time to shoot.
Can you tell where exactly the video was taken? I wanna add it on the map here nocom.org/?q=map/node
PS: Now I'm sure that I must visit Tokyo :)
It was taken in about 4 different places in Tokyo.
I've sent you a message with a link for your map.
The title is absolutely right - soothing :) Great work!
Hope you one day get there . . .
You're very kind :)
やさしいですね:)
If the Japanese characters don't show above and you only see ????? instead:
Thank you very much!
You are very kind :)
Can you tell me what the music was?
Thankyou!
The music is from an unlikely source, from the video game 'Halo 2' on the Xbox+Xbox360.
It's track number 6 titled 'Unforgotten' from the soundtrack 'Halo 2, Vol. 2'
:)
Thank you deeply :)

I opened with the medium shot and let the music draw you into the next tight shot of the statue as the music has a great pulling effect.
love the music, is it the music from halo 3????
The music is quite lovely, it's from Halo 2 & 3.
The version on Halo 3 is a little different, I used the version from Halo 2.
Japan is a place you can really fall for in many different ways.
Whenever I watch it I feel the same.
So I try not to watch it often
as I miss my friends there and wonderful Japan too.
Things like this make me smile also! Love the internet if it works ;)
Strange how Halo fits into these images.
When I was walking around Tokyo I had my iPod on (when I wasn't with my friends), it was on shuffle, then it went to this Halo track and 'BANG' I knew I would use this track to edit my video once I got back home.
;)
Thank you.
Thank you for your kind comments Sushiboy :)
Yes I hope to go back to lovely Nippon soon!
またね すし少年 :)
I really appreciate your comment :)
Japan is amazing alright.
Hehe you just inspired me.
Just a thought, have you considered trying to sell your work to Japanese Tourism companies or something? It's stunning.
Glad I inspired you . . .
I wish the Japanese Tourism board would commission me to produce a video for them.
Thanks again mate :)
Wow, when people ask for longer versions, that says a lot to me. Normally we ask that people edit it shorter. This video is edited down from 3 hours of footage to 4.5min.
I had some other great shots which I never included in this web edit (didn't want it to go too long)
Really appreciate your encouraging comment mate :)
Thanks again !
Now I want to see Japan!
Simple. Elegant. Lovely.
