Not very often does one experience sunshine and rain in the same moment. The children living in the orphanages of Znamyanka and Puhachiv not far from Chornobyl Ukraine, are the enchanting rainbows that miraculously exist in just such conditions.
It was an honor to accompany the 2010 college age mission team from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA on their annual trip. With the help of the Children of Chornobyl Relief And Development Fund they went to share some time and love with these kid, most of which suffer from severe physical and or mental disabilities. Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida are just a few of the disabilities that require extra time and care from an already understaffed and underfunded Soviet era system desperately in need of more umbrellas.
I made this short film to try to help the UOC of the USA and CCRDF focus light on these conditions. To promote and encourage future volunteers to take part in making a change. To become team members themselves or give support in any way possible.
Hopefully it helps inspire people to do something.
