This is a Pixelbender 3D Distance Field Raymarcher, rendered out in After Effects at HD resolution. The original implementation was purposed for the Adobe Flash Player, but unfortunately, this proved a bit to intensive for the software implementation of Pixelbender inside the Flash Player.
The ray is twisted along it's journey into a simple distance field and this results in a nice 3D plasma effect.
The music is provided by John Keston / Ostraka of Unearthed Music of the Precambrian Resonance album. The track title is Rhodes Pedal Noise.
