There were certain shots of that grasshopper that were simply amazing — but SCARY, too! The snail was also wonderfully shot. So, I look forward to the finished film. Good stuff.

It does look amazing. Stunning how those little beings are put together. WAY better (still) than our best animation techniques. There's that one guy, tho... he looked... idunno... plastic or something!

Ok, so in the next episode....do they all battle or something? Cause that would be cool. My money is on the Stegasaurus because he's plastic. But then again, the Grasshopper is faster. Of course nobody wants slug slime on them.

    I don't know....that's a tough one.

Hi Matthew, cool video, have a real pleasure to see it.
It also put my attention because it is made with HV30. And recently I've bought the same cam.
Have you used some special objectives or smth like that?
The colours seem to be so natural.. is it only due to HV30 or there is a secret?.)

    WOOW!
did you use a macro lens? which one?
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Actually it's just the camera's manual focus. It can surprisingly get to 3mm away from an object and still say in focus. Pretty insane considering the HXV costs 4-6 times as much and can only get to about 3 inches or so with a macro lens. I was shocked at how great of a buy the HV30 was.

    Thank you so much!

I'm going to buy one right now! :)

Seeing the film and reading the above makes me happy about the fact I bought an HV30 last week and it is to be delivered Monday (hopefully!!!). I almost want to buy two as i think i will like it so much i want there to be a backup. Very exciting re: 3mm - I love the world of little things (too)!

Great work! When is the finished product set to air?
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey thanks man! The film should be done in January. The composer is coming up with the music right now. I might slice together a teaser trailer or something before then. Thanks for watching!

My HV30 is on the way, you couldn't have sold this camera better. Your cat video is probably the best work; but that's a hard compliment to give, since everything I've seen of yours kicks so much ass.

Great ideas, beautiful composition, excellent work, man.

man i have so many questions, ill keep it short though...could you please tell me what kind of export settings you used for vegas? did you color grade with magic bullets? how did you get the shallow dof? good work.
    cheers
  • Matthew Brown plus 7 months ago
Haha, thanks. It would take a while to explain how I exported it, and I'm afraid I don't have much time right now. I didn't use Magic Bullet...only vegas. And the shallow depth of field was just from the HV30 camera using manual focus. Thank you for the comment!

Breathtaking shots. Reminds me of some footage I've seen on the BBC documentary Planet Earth. Your music choice was truly inspired. It is interesting how well your images lend themselves to the music. Primal, beautiful, and even frightening at times. Incredible and inspiring work. Keep it up!
