The 2008 September campaign was a birthday initiative started by charity: water, a non-profit bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. We asked everyone born in September to give up presents and ask for donations to build wells instead. More than 800 people joined, and raised $950,000 to build wells in Ethiopia. More than 50,000 people got clean water.
