Great work Sam! Met you out there and would often see you going up in the boom— I actually have a shot of you going up in it now that I think about it. Without a doubt I have to say that the movement in the boom creates by far the most compelling shots in the piece. Tilt shift plus movement is really incredible. Hope you had fun on the edit and that it didn't take too long. See you there next year.

Yep, and all the depth of field is post, too. The titles were created and matched in 3dsmax and rendered in Vray.

Sam, after reading through some of the posts and the bitly about the making of I was wondering if you are doing all the depth in post? or you are starting with a tilt lense? Also, how many frames per/sec on the D3?
  • Sam O'Hare 1 year ago
Hi Andrew, yes, all of the depth of field was done in post. You can't get quite the same effect using T-S lenses. All the day shots on this were 4fps, the night shots varied, up to two seconds per frame. See the post from my last film, The Sandpit, for further information on workflow: bit.ly/aFmaPZ

Hey Sam, what an inspirational video, damn! You've completely capture the vibe and I haven't even been. Maybe a stupid question, but did you use a TS lens or apply it in post?
  •
  • steve schofield plus 1 year ago
Amazing video. Worth it's file size in gold... I really love the effect and I just couldn't put my finger on what it was that intrigued me about it, but I think the feeling taht actually the event wasn't real - like it was a model set with miniature real people interacting within it. Everywhere you look something interesting or boring or funny or eyecatching is going on. I love it, well done.

Holy tilt shift flawlessness! Most tilt shift timelapses seem awkward because the lapse is too fast, you really nailed the speed on this. Can't wait to see your work from more events in the future.
