(Sacramento) – During a recent state capitol hearing focused on public officials’ compensation and government transparency, Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles) said the state needs to adopt a clear, straightforward measuring stick for public officials' compensation to avoid future abuse of taxpayer funds. Assemblyman Gatto says there’s a fairly simple way to assess whether public officials are being paid a reasonable amount. He suggests compensation should be based on the number of people the public official serves, and any substantial deviation from this amount should trigger an audit red flag. Assemblyman Gatto explains how his idea would work in this Assembly Access video.
