Very lovely. I see that lots of folks wonder how you shot this, as do I. After watching closely several time I think that we are not seeing what we think we see. Very clever.
  •
  • Pure poetry, make me think a lot. Thanks for sharing.
  •
  • Hey All,
Thanks for the wonderful and overwhelming response! I'm sorry I couldn't be more on top of all the questions, I was camping all weekend.

Anyway- Here's the story. We shot one afternoon for a couple hours in what is technically called the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle. What you see above is the fifth and final take that we did with this song. It was Mychal and Bryan in the row boat, and Ryan and I in a canoe. Ryan is an outstanding paddler and this would not have been possible without his ability to control the boat.

It was shot on a 5D with a 50mm lens that I had borrowed for another unrelated project. I was just holding the thing out in front of me and needless to say spent a bit of time with smoothcam later.

What's funny is that when we shot this take the audio didn't roll but we didn't quite realize till after we were back at the car. So a couple nights later at Bryan's place we re-tracked the audio. There is still a bit of the reference in there for the boat sounds but admittedly I'm not the best sound mixer.

Thanks again for all of the kind words, can't wait to show you guys more.

    -Christian

Epic take! I a astonished you kept the 5d under control by holding it 'out in front' - You must have arms like a python.

  • Beautiful! Ever since it was featured, I keep coming back to watch it. Today I had to dig around to find it because it wasn't showing up in my Likes page for some reason. Great filming! Great song!
  •
  • Bought the album download. It's great! Then when I saw Christian's equipment description, I almost went out and financed a 5D until I saw that its auto-focus doesn't work in live mode! doah! Waiting for that... Also, the fps isn't quite as fast as my current. Maybe next year...
