    Awesome, you do welding! That's really cool. Are you making anything interesting at the moment? (or have you made anything interesting before in the class?)

    I like the effect that you used on the video, what is it? Some sort of edge detection or thresholding?

    Also, yeah, invest in ear plugs - I'm only 24, but having played the drums alot and been to lots of very loud gigs with no ear protection, I am already having hearing problems. Protect your ears!

    I'm taking a beginning welding class (acetylene, arc/rod, MIG/TIG) for fun. I've done a bunch of rod/arc welding as a kid in my backyard. Fire, arcs, sparks and molten metal are so cool. I'm having fun.

    The video effect was thresholding. Spot on!

    Charlie are you going for the artistic sculptural welding, the structural steel utility, automotive or just plain curiousity? You didn't mention brazing, very handy and silversoldering.

    Funny, I got the welding itch again watching a tinsmith at Sturbridge Village last summer. I was a pretty good IC solderer but I'm out of practice. This spring/summer I want to build an electric go-cart with my boys. So, I decided to take a welding class.
