How do you like the Zi6? I've read some reviews that are good & also watched a video on Youtube where the guy trashes it and is sending it back. Let me know what you think. Here is the link to his review: youtube.com/watch?v=-xMt4yoFyf8
Could you also post some more footage with some moving subjects recording at 60fps?
I watched the video review, and I sort of wonder we're using the same camera. Maybe his pre-release device had some sort of issue? It certainly could use some image stabilization, but I think the overall quality is incredible. The screen is great, too. I really like it.
In terms of the other review, I find it odd he'd recommend the Flip Mino, which only records at 640x480, versus the Zi6's 1280x720 (720p). Not to mention the ability to record at up to 60fps. The Zi6 also has a macro mode.
I also like that the Zi6 creates H.264 files, which Mac OS X handles natively. Flip devices use an AVI format, which will only work with iMovie if you install a separate codec (which is a free download).
Thanks for the quick response! Yeah, I kinda' figured that guys Youtube review was a little harsh. Cnet.com gave it a pretty good score. So for what it is and for the price you're pretty happy with it? I've got a Canon HV20 and don't want to wear it out and also can't carry it around with me all the time. I'm thinking about getting one. Is there a wait on these things?
I think it's a great device. I thought I was basically getting it for the covenience and punting on quality, but I'm really happy with the results. The Kodak site says they're in stock.
You might want to check out some more footage first. I was sold on this thing & then saw footage when moving the camera around. It sucks! And low light footage is horrid. Just giving you a heads up! Like with a lot of new products, it's sometimes best to be patient and wait for the next generation. Give 'em time to work out the bugs. As you can see by my comments above I was ready to purchase this thing. Hi Def in your pocket? Hell yeah! But I'll wait! I've got an HV20 (HiDef), but I'll be purchasing a Flip Ultra for a cam.
The quality from the Zi6 looks fantastic, but I'm really concerned about the lack of stabilization, especially after seeing this video. There's a lot of shaking, and after even a minute, I'm not so thrilled about watching.
At the same time, 720p is gorgeous. And that macro mode looks fantastic as well.
I've heard people say the Flip has more stabilization, but I'd personally rather have the HD resolution. I figure that at least leaves me with the option to use a tripod.
Forget the camera: Is this your home? Wow! What a beautiful paradise to wake up to. BTW, thanks for the footage. You've tipped my hat in favor of the Kodak.
