I did this to see how much the quality dropped between the different settings on the Canon HF10, and have put together the two extremes, highest FXP quality and long play, as it was just about impossible to pick the slight differences between the other settings even on a 39in 1920x1080 display TV sitting 1.5mts away after the initial drop in resolution from 1920x1080 on the FXP down to 1440x1080 all I could see was that the pans went softer, even the clips of the water held up well just a slight smoothing effect. all I can say is what a remarkable encoder AVCHD is, after the pan of Kaiteriteri from above the beach, they were all taken at 1920x1080, and are all of Kaiteriteri I put them in to show what a beach resort is like in winter, no trouble parking
