Saturday the 9th October, Evan Grant's Seeper collective
mapped the IAC building in Chelsea, New York, NY.

The video giant art project was made to celebrate the
opening of the the awards afterparty held in the foyer of the IAC building.

The Vimeo Team have cut together an awesome Multi-camera version... you can see it here: vimeo.com/15887314

If you like this stuff, take a look at Seeper's amazing work at their site here: seeper.com/

I was lucky enough to be there on behalf of SMH.com.au. Shot on Canon 7D, No Tripod, Tamron 18-270

Thanks for posting this (and making it downloadable)! Your angle and your 7D wins over what I got with my Flip. It will be nice to have this to visually show others what I've been trying to (unsuccessfully) describe.

Interesting. Some detail for a newcomer, please. Like: is this actually a building? how was it done?

Missed it because I had to leave early to catch my train home. So thank you so much for sharing this, Dan. I am thinking this is much cheaper, safer, and more sustainable than fireworks.

That's really neat. Thanks for sharing. But howbout taking 5 minutes to sync the sound? Would be much more impressive.
  • Dan Ilic plus 1 year ago
mate, that's nat sound recorded straight to disk...
  • benjamin hendricks 1 year ago
I know... That's the problem. It's cool if you don't want to, but a lot of the piece has to do with sound synced with video. A 20 frame change in the sound timing wouldn't take away from the authenticity, imo, and would make the video more fun, less distracting.

i know you will disagree but it is kind of boring...
  • painpainpain 1 year ago
I actually agree on some level. Seen stuff like this 2-3 years ago. They had a lot of nice surface to play with, but some parts were utterly boring ( the bubbles for example )

But I see how this will be a huge "Oooh" for people who haven't seen mapping done before. And nothing wrong with that.

This is what happens with 3-4 weeks work ;) Boring to some, magic to others...
  • Dan Ilic plus 1 year ago
Yeah Evan, they weren't there.. I was...It was Jaw Dropping! The carpark was very slippery to walk on afterwards there was so much saliva on the ground.

Could you upload a Video showing off the Zoom of your Tamron 18-270mm on your 7D?

I'm just wondering if it's actually decent enough to do any quick shots random roaming around places...

I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (Basically a Canon 50mm f/1.4 on my 7D), Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (Perfect), a Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (quite Sharp actually) and a Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 (Horrible) and I think I might just grab a Tamron 18-270mm for the hell of it when I roam around the city because I always see things but none of my lenses would get remotely close. It's just for visual reference, not Pro-Photography or Videography, I just want a picture of whatever I see from far away without shelling out $2400 on a Canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6
  • Dan Ilic plus 1 year ago
It is okay for roaming.. however like all HD DSLR filmmaking focus is a real pain. You'll want to get a nice follow focus rig for it. My lens I have knocked around quite a bit so the focus is really sticky as is the zoom..

Good, make the building alive, that is what a VM for, a lot of work for graphic animation and mapping scenes. I just wonder the audio sound environment, what do you hear, 3D suround sound or just audio, I went to few places before, the audio is horriable, my taste. take away the VM effect live
  • seeper pro 1 year ago
On this the audio was stereo, with more time would have loved to do a multi channel piece!
