Rosh Protected Area Community is located one kilometer north of Socotra, an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Yemen. The marine protected area which belongs to the communities of the Sacra and Diherhom villages was developed in response to decreases in marine resources and fish populations. A conservation area and eco-campsite were established under the leadership of sheikh Omar, branching later into wider conservation activities.

In 2010, Rosh Protected Area Community won the Equator Prize which is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This video was created as part of our Biodiversity for Local Livelihoods project.
