Tape #158: Interviews from Grünfeld, Ukraine
Original Footage - Tape E
This is the fifth section of the original footage from the archives, untranslated and undone.
The first focus of the Mennonite Video Archive Project was the collaborative series Tape #158: Interviews From Grünfeld, Ukraine, based on 'found' VHS footage recorded at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Archives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in the summer of 2010. The almost undocumented tape features unedited and untranslated interview footage between a middle-aged woman and an older man, the woman asking questions to the man in Russian, and the man responding in Plaut'dietsch (Mennonite Low German); Later on, three people in the same village are interviewed, in the same inter-linguistic manner. As the records showed very little information about this tape in the archive, the footage was offered to potential collaborators without translation or context, except for its archival source.
