Patrick Hughes’ unique three-dimensional painting constructions confuse viewers’ perceptions with their dizzying sense of paradoxical motion. They are entertaining, disorienting and engaging works that have quickly gained popularity among important collectors of contemporary art. At first glance his paintings appear flat, yet they jut out from the wall in a series of symmetrical reverse structures that make them appear to “move” as the viewer changes position, creating an argument between vision and perception.
