28. Why leaving WTC ?
Four years before 9/11 we made this weird movie about all people quickly 'leaving' WTC and Lidy my wife going in wondering. It was just made for our Global-DVC students as an example for the edit reverse trick: Lidy my wife was walking backwards through the crowd and I edit all in speedy reverse. Just as many tourists we visited WTC but thought it would be a weird effect to show them in reverse as if they did not want to go in their office! I've also made several long stockshots with recognizable office people at the passage ways. I'm sure many of them didn't survive 9-11. I don't really know what to do with all left footage, many loved ones might want to see it. May be someone of you can help/advice us with a link to a trusty national collector of WTC docushots? Thanks so much.

Camera Sony VX1000 3 by 4 footage converted into 1280x720 with Vegas8 pro.

I like this very much, Jan. Extremely poignant, and made me deeply thoughtful. Very good choice of music, too.

Very impressive and uncanny: When you consider 4 years later so many died in this building and you see all these people walking backwards in this clip it becomes a kind of higher meaning.

I agree with na-du->da. It's kinda freaky. On itself it's nicely done and creates and earie effect (indeed, the music helps). But in hindsight of 9/11 it's really dramatic.

Really nice job mate and music is so fitting for it.
Watching this and thinking about these poor people on that fateful day bought tears to my eyes.
I think its a wonderful thought of you to think about the loved ones and the foot that you have left, I'm sure that there would be some sort of 9-11 foundation that would know.
Maybe we can all try to help you out on that one and see what we come up with???
    Your a Wonderful person Jan.

This was hard for me to watch - I put it off for a few days after I saw that you posted it - I'm sure someone in those shots is not here now - Steven (my partner) lost at least 12 close fellow firefighter brothers on 9 11 and almost lost his own real brother - it's a wonder he survived since he was less than a block away when the first tower came down - we are very happy to still have him with us.
Great video really Jan but this was still not easy to watch even after all of these years. Your work is great but I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the "like" on this one - my apologies.

Thank you Dan, this is exactly the reason I left it on the shelf. But after these 11 years I think many families or collegues might want to view historical footage of their beloved ones walking into WTC. I simply cant just delete this extra footage. But I found now the national911memorial.org site see how they react.

I think it's great you're going to get it out there and glad you kept it all these years - it's a glimpse of something one will never see again.

I think you've done the right thing. For me it's diificult to look at this footage without having very sad feelings.

But your description/explanation makes it a positive remembrance.

    Thanks Jan

It's most definitely hard to watch.
When this was shot, I was still a high school punk who didn't know what the WTC was. I know much more now, even visited ground zero a few weeks ago with a friend who was coming out the subway station just as the second plane hit and had to sprint for miles to get out of the way.
But I have never had a chance to see a glimpse of what it had been.

I wish all the people who walked in that day had been walking backwards......

This is a remarkable, if unintentional, piece of documentary footage whose magnitude has obvioulsy increaed due to its now historical context. But that shouldn't be allowed to detract from the fact that it is a fine piece of photography. I love the surreal way your model, (good lady?) appears to be walking slowly through the retreating crowd.
    Bravo
