State Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) is running for re-election against Democrat Josh Weger. Righter speaks to Illinois Public Media's Sean Powers about what he thinks should be done to erase Illinois' $13 billion budget deficit. He estimates that it could take up to five years to pull the state out of the red, but adds that that's contingent on lawmakers going line-by-line in the budget to cut programs, reducing taxes and fees for truckers shipping goods into Illinois, and changing the state's workers compensation program to weed out people who aren't truly injured.
