High-Definition Memory (Post Hip Hop Project) Structured Improvisation / Movement Research by Anna Smutny.
Anna and I collaborated on High-Definition Memory, a work I presented in 2009 as part of the Post Hip Hop Project, a residency and choreographic mentorship at Place des Arts 5e Salle with Rubberbandance Group's artistic director Victor Quijada.
Based on the notion of drawing movement from past memories and aiming to present it as such, Anna and I spent much of our residency in physical research, developing movement tendencies through many structured improvisations. In this, Anna greatly surpassed the definition of her role as interpreter, investing an inspired and inspiring presence to the research and creation of this piece.
Instrumental also to this process was Emily Gualtieri, who contributed insofar as rehearsal director and outside eye for my work; her input was highly conducive to its development.
