The Mexican Indigenous Tourism Network (RITA) promotes a self-reliance approach to indigenous community development, which emphasizes sustainable livelihoods in communities working in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The organization, which is primarily focused on ecotourism and microenterprises, mobilizes indigenous communities through a collaborative and participatory network with the objective of overcoming economic marginalization.
In 2010, RITA won the Equator Prize which is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This video was created as part of our Biodiversity for Local Livelihoods project.
