The lighting was interesting, good use of a contre jour technique, and this would only have worked in mono. However, I did think that when he went off camera at 1:55 that there should either have been a strong zoom out, or cut to another shot. That said, I enjoyed watching.
I know what it takes from both the music side and film side (yes this is really shot on film) to do this in ONE TAKE, live. And Francis' absence from the Frame for a couple of seconds only heightens the impact when he returns for the finish. The camera is continuious, unrelenting, always present as an impartial observer - a quick zoom or cut would have broken the 'character' of the observer. So glad that didn't happen.
And I haven't even begun to talk about the PERFORMANCE! Francis' dance moves seem to require slo-mo to capture the motion he's so wound up. So much passion and energy bound up in a two and a half minute song. And the vocal - how can he move so much and yet deliver such a quality vocal performance?

:)
Loved the slo-mo at the end.
How about selling this to Nescafe?

actually this is the best thing I saw so far.
(and I liked what i saw!)
I don't know, maybe because this guy want's to be a great soul singer so much, but he has'nt got the tightness so he makes it up with soul! and then the beautiful camera work..
very good!
The video is very good, I like the concept and the light bulbs falling down. This last touch is the one that makes this video special.
everything from how its shot, to the quality and especially the performance is just solid as a unit, I love the almost david byrne-ish nervosity and intensity that he displays and the dancemoves are spot on... it feels honest and its very minimal yet powerful, just how it should be. Someone else commented on that the camera angle should have been different as he starts ehh running back and forth but I disagree I think thats actually adding to the power of this video.
Im not 100% sure of the singing , but thats not the point, the point is ; fucking ace.
cheers from Sweden / L
