DOOMSDAY RADIO SCENARIO- Listening to the echoes of Hurricane Katrina. (Hard to believe it has been three years this Month)
A Never- before- seen- footage of one of the worst natural disaster in US history. What Hams are doing
today to prepare for another storm.
My daughter, Tirza, captured these dramatic scenes of New Orleans Lakeview flooding.
Inadequate communication was one of the major problems in Katrina emergency
response.
Communication interoperability prevented
local officials and emergency personnel to reach many Lakeview residents.
Tirza, and her friends, were able to save many lives.
A LESSON TO BE LEARNED
In the aftermath of the storm
Old fashioned Ham Radio (Analog technology) came again to the rescue when at a critical time,
my 21- year-old Ham radio repeater on top of Ochsner Medical Clinic, (KB5AVY) became one of the few links between New Orleans and the outside world. Embellished with the original lyrics and sounds of inspired local musicians such as Leonard Palmisano (N5JNY), Jim Brown and Milton Villarrubia III.
