I find that there are few things as calming and can help me unwind more than pairing a great cigar with a fine glass of single malt scotch. I've tried to capture that feeling with this 60 second video.

The footage was shot using a Canon HV30 with a Letus 35mm adapter and Nikon 50mm lense. Editing was done in Adobe Premiere.

If I drank or smoked I might like this. Needless to say I can't argue the great shots and cool flash transitions. You would of like the wedding I shot where they hired a cuban to roll fresh cigars for the guest.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
At the end of the day, the video represents what helps us unwind. Sounds like that wedding was pretty slick! Never had a freshly rolled cigar before. Must be amazing.

    Joe, congratulations.
This is a classic video. Instant. Classic.
The music fits it perfectly. Jazz + scotch and a cigar.
Love it. Only thing is I forgot the song's name.
Please tell me and I'll look for it on my mp3.
    Once again, classic.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thanks for the compliment, Stefano! The name of the song is called "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck on the album "Time Out."

    Thanks Joe.

My pleasure. Enjoy the song. :-)

awesome.. :) if i could, i'd smoke cigars but i'm not quite there yet to appreciate the taste.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thanks, Matt! Smoking is bad for your health. Stay away! :-)

Classy short, that. Very well done, Clan.

(Though there are some that say putting ice with a single malt should actually be illegal :)
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
No more than one or two cubes for me. I actually enjoy how it allows the scotch to evolve as you drink it. Although, I'll take mine "neat" on occasion.

Clan this might be one of your more creative works. Different angles and filters. Beautifully done!

I can't comment on the scotch side of things (have had only once...in Scotland) but I love a mild cigar. Now my wife on the other hand hates how I smell after so I don't do it as much as I'd like.

    Great video though!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Scotch is definitely an aquired taste. It's in my blood so I suppose I was destine to enjoy it. My wife hates cigars too, but I'm able to sneak one in every now and again.

  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Hahaha! I know what you mean. I don't know how many times I've seen something at work that made me realize I'd rather be somewhere else. You know... like my shoes, or a pencil, or my car keys, or can of soda, or...

After that it's almost a requirement to fire up a stoag and pour a glass. The quality is really good esp. with the new adapter and lens. Was the dark vignetting intentional in some of the shots or is that the adapter?
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
It was because of the adapter, but intentional. I could focus closer on the ground glass to get rid of the vignetting, but I like the look. Especially with this video where the subject matter is kind of old-school classic.

Wonderful piece, although I prefer Havana Club rum to scotch.
But seriously, a very nice video !
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Hmmm... Havana Club Rum, eh? It's going to be difficult to get a bottle here in the States - much like my cigars. But if I ever have the opportunity I will capitalize on it! Thanks for the tip. :-)

Dang! that scotch looked good. I'm not much of a cigar sister but the video was nice. What happened to the twoneil? did you switch it for the letus?
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thank you, Maria. Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm really a "only every once in a while" guy when it comes to cigars. But scotch... well... that's a different story. ;-) As for the twoneil. It's in great hands. In fact, a fellow Vimean purchased it from me!
  • MariaNYC plus 1 year ago
I think the letus was a better choice....
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Better? Yes. More expensive? Triple Yes! ;-) I love it though. Now I just need to save up and get more lenses. Ahhhh will the madness ever stop?!?!
  • MariaNYC plus 1 year ago
the madness will NEVER stop. I'm thinking Letus for myself.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Hahaha! You got that right, sister! ;-)
If you go with the Letus, you will not be disappointed. It's such an amazing peice of hardware.
  • MariaNYC plus 1 year ago
    which one did you get?
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Duh... the "cheapest" one. The Letus35 Mini. Hahaha.

Since I both like scotch, and cigars (though Montecristo's more my brand actually) and great HD films, I loved this video. Also, I like jazz.

    Very nicely done!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thanks, Floris. You've got fine taste indeed. Go to the :28 mark and you'll see that just under my Cohiba box is a Monetcristo box. :-)

Awesome video. What did you use to stabilize the camcorder for fluent movement? And I take it that was all 24P? Man I need to get me one of those lenses. How much was that 35 MM adapter?
  •
  • kaydawgy 11 months ago
Also, I see you work with Premiere. Is it Pro CS3? Man, you look like you know your stuff judging from your vids. I have a million questions to ask you. I'll just send you a PM if that's okay.
  • Clan McCloud plus 11 months ago

I noticed that you have a Letus and a Twoneil. In your opinion which of the two would you say has the best quality?

    Thanks in advance
  • Clan McCloud plus 9 months ago
Well... it's not really a fair comparison. The twoneil is a DIY that'll run you a couple hundy. Whereas the Letus is going to set you back a grand at least (and that's not even including the cost of the rails).

So, the quality of the Letus is hands-down better. Little to no vignetting, less light loss, rightside-up image, etc. But I tell you... for the price, the twoneil is an AMAZING little DOF adapter that I would definitely recommend.

Highly skilled....and how effective the DOF. I hope to buy a digital SLR (Panasonic Lumix GH1, perhaps) in order to achieve this style which just blows me away.
  • Clan McCloud plus 5 months ago
"In order to achieve this style" ??? You must be kidding. Your short 'transition' had some incredible DOF shots. I was really impressed with that short.
