Well, I DO cover how to use and integrate a plane with a video texture of pre-rendered smoke into the footage. But not as extensively as the the thing you mentioned.
But yes, it does cover some techniques of the "big" applications. But the focus is more on compositing actual 3d elements, and not so much what you describe, working exclusively with footage elements. The tutorial also does not cover keying.
Btw., I think I know that video you mentioned, and that brings to an excellent idea for a follow-up tutorial on compositing.... ;-)
