Ahhh soo beautiful. I'm reminded of Ono's "Draw A Circle Event" -- I'd like the machine to fill out her questionnaire. Sometimes I feel like we are that machine, working against our own mechanisms to do something that, at first glance, seems reasonable -- but eventually proves near impossible.

Something about this film had me laughing out loud. The humorous vein in your work is unmistakable.

I think I know how to fix that :D
What you do is set the machine to wind the two wooden pieces at the same time, change the size of the string holding the Marker, and I believe it will fix the problem.

You assume there is something "wrong" with it.. it is easy to make a machine draw nearly perfect circles.

It's almost like watching an episode of Itchy & Scratchy.

I felt sorry for the pen, laughing at the torture it was being subjected to.

    =)

It could be interesting to record human reactions of people watching this for the first time. Even the comments here give clues about the way their writers think.

Beautiful and, as noted earlier, quite sad.

I've made a similar, 'clumsy' machine.

I don't feel sorry for the pen; it's just a tool. It's the 2 machines I feel sorry for. I can almost hear their frustration! Is it odd to think the one closest to the camera is mad that the other one isn't putting as much effort into it? "Come on, man! Work with me! Just watch me and do what I do. NO! That's not it!"

could you please post once the drawings of your machine somewhere?
just like kyle mcdonald said before, this is very beautiful! and, i guess, in the end more balanced than one thought.
    great work!
