199. A Year of Time-Lapses
I know it's not a lot of fun to watch a short 12-second time-lapse, so I have decided to take virtually all the time-lapses I have captured over the past 12 months and put them together into one upload.

What lens you have used to capture moon ?
    great work ..
  • Ron Risman plus 1 year ago
Different lenses. The first moon shot was captured using a 500mm on the Canon 7D, which gave an 800mm focal length. The strong winds caused quite a bit of jitter on that time-lapse. Removed much of it in post, but not all of it. The B&W moon / clouds were shot with a 200mm (320mm with 1.6x crop).

love your timelapse work. A years worth in just a few minutes...wow
  • Ron Risman plus 1 year ago
Thanks James. The yard cleanup (Leaf blowing) was actually captured this afternoon and inspired me to gather up all the other clips from the past year.

Really nice... I have a 5d mk 2, but haven't explored time lapses yet. Did you do it by shooting video and creating a new clip every 10 minutes or so, or did you rig it to shoot stills somehow?
  • Ron Risman plus 1 year ago
Hi Tom. Most of the time-lapse footage in this clip were stills that were combined into motion sequences. There are two sequences of the moon that were recorded as video and then sped up in post.

You have some dandies in there for sure, especially the wide angle on the city/mountains/daylight to nightlights at the end.
You may have answered above, but I am interested in the setup recording the moon between 00:17 and 00:20.
  • Ron Risman plus 1 year ago
Thank you. The moon time-lapse was captured as video and then increased in speed in post. It was shot at 500mm (800mm equivalent on the Canon 7D) using the Sigma 100-500mm lens. There was a lot of vibration from wind but Sony's Vegas 10 built-in stabilization did a great job of stabilizing the footage.
