Hunsett Mill is a specific response to a specific place in the fragile context of the Norfolk Broads. The new house is conceived as a shadow of the retained cottage and is clad in black, charred Japanese oak, adding to its shadow-like appearance, with flush windows giving it a sense of insubstantiality. It is brilliant and beautifully realized idea. The overall impact is arresting - more truly a piece of art than a recognizable piece of rural, domestic architecture.
